Questions about cats' desire to experience the outdoors:

Question:  Why should a cat not be allowed to roam freely outdoors?
Answer:  The main reasons are because an unrestricted outdoor environment is detrimental to a cat's
health, a cat owner's neighbors may not appreciate the presence of a cat on their property, a cat that
roams freely will probably kill a lot of birds, and finally, many cities are adopting ordinances restricting
cats from roaming outdoors - and those cats that are picked-up by animal control are put in the
"pound".  If you would like to see a list of the dangers that a cat may be exposed to when roaming
outdoors, please see the Cat Safety page on this web site.

Question:  Is it cruel or unnatural to restrict a cat from roaming freely outdoors?
Answer:  No, it is neither cruel nor unnatural.  In fact, according to the Humane Society of the United
States, two out of three veterinarians recommend that you not allow your cat to roam freely outdoors.

Question:  Can a cat be happy if it is not allowed to go outdoors?
Answer:  Yes, provided that the cat is given adequate stimulation, exercise, and affection.  Much of
the necessary stimulation can come from having access to a safe outdoor cat enclosure.  The
exercise and affection must come from the pet owner spending time playing with and petting their cat.

Question:  Will a cat that wants to go outdoors be satisfied with having access to an outdoor enclosure?
Answer:  In most cases, the answer is yes.  The aspects of the outdoors that cats cherish most are the
warm sun, the breeze, and the sights and sounds of nature.  All of these elements of the outdoors can
be experienced from the secure haven of an enclosure.

Question:  Will a cat that has always been allowed to go outdoors accept being confined to the indoors?
Answer:  The transition from a free-roaming existence to a restricted indoor lifestyle may be difficult for
a cat to accept immediately.  However, cats usually adapt to the new lifestyle over time if their owner
provides an adequate substitute for the outdoor stimulation that the cat is accustomed to experiencing.
An outdoor enclosure can provide most of the sensations that an outdoor cat cherished when it was free
to go outside.

Question:  Does a cat that has never been outdoors have a desire to go outdoors?
Answer:  Cats are instinctively curious.  Those that have been raised exclusively indoors will still stare
out a window in fascination at the birds, insects, and fluttering leaves.  However, if allowed to go outside,
these same cats will often be frightened by aspects of the outdoors that are unfamiliar to them.  An
indoor cat can experience the sensations of the outdoors without being exposed to the associated
dangers by staying within the confines of a secure enclosure.

Question:  Will a cat that has never been outdoors be afraid to go in an outdoor enclosure?
Answer:  Cats are always eager to explore new environments.  In the beginning, an indoor-only cat may
be hesitant to go into an outdoor enclosure.  However, given some time and encouragement, even the
most timid cats will give-in to their innate curiosity and venture into an outdoor enclosure.

Questions about the features and use of our products

Question:  Do the outdoor enclosures that you sell protect cats from predators like coyotes?
Answer:  Our point-of-view is that a cat should never be subjected to the mental trauma of watching a
predator attempt to break into the cat's enclosure, even if the enclosure is "predator proof".  Therefore,
if an enclosure is installed in an environment where predators of cats are present, then the cat should
be provided with an escape route to the indoors (a feature that is offered on all of the enclosures that we sell).
A predator will have no reason to attempt to break into an enclosure after a cat has run indoors to safety.
So, from our perspective, a "predator proof" enclosure is not necessary so long as you provide your cat with
an escape route. We have designed our enclosures to be resistant to predators, but we cannot guarantee
that they are "predator proof".

Question:  Can I put your cat enclosure in the same yard with my dog?
Answer:  Yes.  However, if the dog and cat do not get along then you probably do not want them to be
nose-to-nose through the cage of the enclosure or else they will bark and hiss at each other and possibly
try to bite and scratch each other.  In this situation, we recommend that you construct a waist-high secondary
fence around the outside of the enclosure that is at least 6 inches away from the outer cage.  This type of
arrangement will create a little breathing room to help keep the peace.

Question:  Do any of the enclosures that you sell provide any shade from the sun or protection from the rain?
Answer:  Yes, our Model PS-100 Large Enclosure features a translucent plastic roof that will protect your cat
from the rain and provide shade when the sun is over head.

Question:  Can I put a scratch post, cat toys, a litter box, and other items in the enclosures that you offer?
Answer:  Yes, our Model PS-100 Large Enclosure features a latching-door that allows you to easily add or
remove items from the inside.  Our small and medium size enclosures do not feature a full-size door, however,
toys and a scratch-post can placed inside during assembly of the product, and small items can be introduced
later by inserting them through the pet flap-door.

Question:  My cat likes to climb and perch.  Will my cat be able to do that in one of your enclosures?
Answer:  Yes, our enclosures feature multiple platforms that allow your cat to climb to different levels and
look down from a high vantage point.

Question:  Can I leave my cat outside in one of your enclosures all day long?
Answer:  If you attach the enclosure to a pet flap-door, then your cat will be free to go back and forth between
the inside of your home and the enclosure.  We do not recommend restricting your cat to an outdoor
enclosure for an extended period of time without supervision because your cat could become too hot or cold
due to a lack of shelter from the weather.  In addition, we recommend that you always allow your cat an escape
route back to the indoors just in case a predator attempts to breach the enclosure.

Question:  If I connect an enclosure to my house, will insects be able to fly into my home?
Answer:  The connection to your home will feature a flap-type pet door, so the likelihood of insects entering
your home is minimal.

Question:  If I purchase the Window Walkway for the Model PS-100, will I still be able to close the window?
Answer:  Yes, the product has been designed to be compatible with horizontal sliding and vertical
sliding (single-hung and double-hung) windows.  You will be able to close and open the window in the
normal manner.

Question:  Do you offer an enclosure that is compatible with casement (crank-type) windows?
Answer:  At this time, we do not offer an enclosure that is compatible with casement windows.

Question:  Do you offer a floor for any of your enclosures?
Answer:  Yes, we offer a Floor Panel for our Model PS-100 Large Enclosure.  The floor consists of an
all-weather synthetic grass carpet that is attached to a one-inch thick board of thermal insulating material.
The Floor Panel helps to keep your cat clean and reduces the chance that your cat will be exposed to fleas
or any other parasites, fungus, or bacteria that may be in the ground.

Question:  Is my cat safe from diseases in an outdoor enclosure?
Answer:  A cat that is limited to an outdoor enclosure has significantly lower risk of acquiring
communicable diseases than a cat that roams freely outdoors, but there still is some risk.  For this reason,
most veterinarians recommend vaccinating a cat that has access to an outdoor enclosure.

Question:  Can my cat catch fleas in an outdoor enclosure?
Answer:  The likelihood of catching fleas is dependent upon the type of surface where the enclosure is
installed.  If the enclosure is installed on cement, the likelihood of catching fleas is minimal.  If the
enclosure is installed on grass, then the likelihood increases, but is still less than for a cat that roams
freely outdoors.  If you want to install an enclosure on grass and yet you want to minimize the possibility
of your cat catching fleas, then you may want to order the Model PS-100 Large Enclosure and also
purchase the optional Floor Panel.

Question:  Do your enclosures require any maintenance?
Answer:  No regular maintenance is required.  Simply spray the enclosure with a hose if it becomes dirty.

Question:  Can I combine two or more of your enclosures to make a bigger enclosure?
Answer:  Yes.  If you need something different than our standard products, please contact us and we will
advise you on how to combine multiple enclosures, or we may be able to offer something custom for your
particular needs.

listed in the description of each individual product .  For those products that do require assembly, we
provide clear and complete instructions.

Question:  Are any tools required for assembly?
Answer:  Most of our products require some common hand tools for the assembly and installation, such
as a scissors and a pair of pliers.

Question:  How long does it take to assemble and install one of your cat enclosures?
Answer:  The answer depends on the assembly requirements of the particular product and on your
aptitude to perform the necessary procedure.  We recommend that you set-aside an hour or two to give
yourself ample time.

Question:  Do I need to buy any hardware to complete the assembly?
Answer:  Our products are supplied to you with all of the necessary parts.  You do not need to provide
any hardware.  You will only need to provide your own hand-tools , such as a scissors and a pair of pliers.

Question:  I don't want to install the product.  Can you arrange to have someone install it for me?
Answer:  We do not offer product installation.  If you do not want to perform the installation, we suggest
that you ask a friend or family member, or that you hire a local handyman.

Question:  Do your outdoor enclosures have to be installed on a flat horizontal surface?
Answer:  We recommend installing our enclosures on as flat and horizontal of a surface as possible.
The reason is because the enclosure will be more stable, and there will be no gap between the
enclosure and the ground if you install it on a flat horizontal surface.

Question:  Can your enclosures be installed on any type of surface?
Answer:  Our enclosures can be installed on just about any surface, including grass, dirt, stone, asphalt,
and concrete.
